rendellers Posted 23 July , 2008 Share Posted 23 July , 2008 My grandfather 2nd Lt Charles William Tebb was recommended for the Military Cross (which he didn't get) by a Major H Cutbush. Both men were in the 124 RFA brigade 37 Division 4 Corps. From looking at the main website I think this incident took place just before a major battle ensued. Can anyone point me to where this incident took place and where I can find out more about the action. Is it near Rouen? The citation reads " Conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. Near Essarts on the 25th May 1918 while the battery was being very heavily shelled, this officer with utter disregard to personal safety, successfully extinquished a fire in a Gun Pit and Ammunition Dump, caused by hostile shelling. The whole of the Detachment had been wounded. His prompt action prevented further cassualties and damage' many thanks
