I've found Fred Worsfold on the Soldiers Died cd.......

No other Worsfold listed for the CS, but I'll try different spellings.

The other 2 men you've listed aren't on the CWGC site.... there are Frank Worsfolds but not with the serial numbers you've quoted. I'll have a look for a MIC and pop them here.

5846 Walsh died 29.10.14 - as you say he is 1st Btn an August casualty would be very unusual

Thanks Coldstream,

I imagine he was one of the early postings to France, why unusual?

My info is that he was in the army prior to being posted to France

His attestation papers say he was originally in the 1st Bn East Lancs Reg and was with the 6th Bn Manchester Reg. when he enlisted for the Coldstreams. Stamps on the papers state,

"mobilised London 6th Aug 1914" and was " Posted 1st bn 6th Aug 1914

The hand written bits are harder to read but states Died on or since 29th 10.1914

His totatal service was 9yrs 345 days . I have copies of receipts Granma signed for his medals, 1014star, the Clasp and the British War medal. I assume there would have been a "Death Penny" also. They went believing the fight would not last very long. He was I gather one of the "Old Contemptibles". Lots died in those early days and I can only hope that the Centenery 2014 is being planned in Govt circles. Many thanks I have the greatest respect for all you guys on the forum who are so committed to the Great war memory.

Unusual as nearly all August casualties seem to be 3rd Btn
