Picture of my Paternal Grand Father  Pte Alfred Barton SD 286   11th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment before embarkation to France.

Private Alfred Barton discharged from the Depot no longer physically fit for war service, wound.  Badge (Silver War Badge No 209274), enlisted 7.9.1914 discharged 24.4.1917. 

WW1 enlisted in Royal Sussex Regt 11th Batt. D Company 1914 - 1917 Wounded in France. One of "Lowther's Own"

It looks like Findmypast have a record for Alfred. It reads as:

 

First name(s): A

Last name: Barton

Age: 27

Service number286

Rank: Private

Unit: 11th Bn Sussex Regiment

Company: 'B'

Completed years service: 2

Completed months in field force: 6

Admission to:  2nd General Hospital, Le Havre on 13.9.1916

Transfer to Hospital Ship Carrisbrook Castle on 3.10.1916

Ailment: wound to abdomen (+ right arm ? I' not sure if the entry relates to the man above)
