Army Service Corps 1902-1918 arrives

Well my book finally turned up 5 days later than the estimated delivery, but it was well worth the wait, for anyone interested in the Army Service Corps during the Great War it's a must have. I started looking for the book as a result of reading about it in forums on this site, but quickly became aware of how difficult it is to find at a reasonable price. As I type there is a new copy available for £47.50 on Amazon, and 3 used for £45.99, £46 and an eye watering £119.85. I managed to find a copy through AbeBooks for £13 but the order was cancelled presumably because someone else got there first. I decided to bide my time and sure enough another one appeared on the same site, this time my order was accepted and I paid just £12.82 including P&P. I did not know what condition it was in until it arrived so imagine my delight when I opened the parcel and it was brand new. Now I can get a more detailed picture of what my Grandfather did in his time in the Army Service Corps, it was a real thrill when I looked in the sections at the back of the book and there was his Company in the listings, but I am getting ahead of myself, the next step in my research is still the 9th East Lancs war Diaries.

My interest in the ASC is with regard to the sections provided to the Royal Garrison Artillery, and the role of the ASC in artillery logistics.

I was lucky, the library has a copy, so I was able to look at the relevant information, however at £12.82 I could have been tempted to buy a copy.

Patience is a virtue when looking for specialist books. It is very tempting to suddenly have a mad moment and pay a higher price. I was lucky with Fredericks Lineage, I had seen copies in not so good a condition for hundreds of pounds, eventually obtained both volumes, virtually brand new for a lot lower cost.
