The Soldiers Effects Register records ‘accident’. At the time of his death the 141st AT Coy RE were working on water supplies at Bailleul, Berthen. Godewaersvelde and Steenvoorde. Sadly the war diary for the unit makes no mention of the events which led to his death.

I had the opportunity to visit the BERTENACRE military cemetery.
I noticed for the first time that there were sappers buried in this cemetery and I tried to trace their history.

My great grandfather was a sapper in the same unit . I dont know what he looked like.  William Robert Warr , he was killed Aug 2 1917
