P'07'... JAC

Hello Chums,

Found this interesting little item this weekend: 380035766585... on our favourite auction site. I took a closer look at the ricasso's due to it being dated 1916 and having no clearance hole.

Unfortunatelly, though I would dearly love to add this item to my collection, I just cannot bring myself to take out my wallet. Why? I've provided (1st pic) an illustration of the item in question. Study the numeral '9' from the pattern number, then compare it with the 'J' of the firms logo and you'll see what I mean. Then, compare it with the 2nd pic (of an item from my collection) that I have provided.

Incidentally, before anyone comments... I know there is no manufacture date on my item! I've had this one for as long as I can remember.. actually bought it in Plymouth, Devon, England.. in 1970, as a gap filler. Kept it since then, and its become as sort of conversation peace.

Lets have your comments chaps!

Seph :D

Hi Seph

Not sure. I agree that the "J" seems a bit too curly, but the rest of it looks OK. However, you are the bayonet specialist, not me. It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

TonyE... its that curly representation that I do not trust. One can even see the lower part of the curl to the circle of the '9', almost like a reverced old style lower case 't'.

Bids at the moment = 12, going price = $22.00

Who can actually say that it is not an actual mistake during manufacture? I certainly cannot, at least, not without having hands on to the item. But with so much coverage of the '07' these days, its all to easy for an individual to make something look like a rarer example, which the JAC version of the Chapman manufacturer is. Like the age old saying goes... 'If in doubt, leave it out!'

I can wait for another if not better example to turn up!
