NDRFT Posted 10 June , 2008 Posted 10 June , 2008 Hi I am trying to get to the bottom of wether my Gt Grand father served in the Great War - I think possibly not due to age. The only detail I have is from the back of a spoon which was his whilst in the army. It says; 2 C O L R E 6394 He was born in 1868 - in Oxford - his name was Thomas William Robinson. It is family folklore that he may have served in the Boer or Indian conflict but records are distant. I have lots of info on him in my tree on Ancestry but would like some help if any one can offer on here please? Regards Nigel
Ken Lees Posted 10 June , 2008 Posted 10 June , 2008 Nigel, Have you looked at all of the Medal Index Cards on Ancestry for men of the same name? You could also try searching that service number on the MICs and see if that comes up with anything. If you know where he, or his immediate family, were living during the Great War you could check the Absent Voters Lists. If was away at the war it could be mentioned, even possibly giving his unit and service number. I'm sure others will make more suggestions. Ken
