CROONAERT Posted 10 June , 2008 Posted 10 June , 2008 Has anyone got any photos/images (even drawings will do if they're from an "official" source!) of any of the following ID tags that they could share with me, please? Japanese (type 38???) - Found Portugese (wooden type (preferably) or the british style) Russian (wooden phial type) - Found Turkish Serbian ("tin plate" tag) Chinese (rivetted bracelet) British (pre-1906 identity card (not the colonial version)- does anyone have the AO reference for this also, please?) Thanks. Dave.
CROONAERT Posted 10 June , 2008 Author Posted 10 June , 2008 While I'm thinking... I could also do with an image of a New Zealand tag (not private purchase variety) that differs from the standard British 1914/16 patterns. Thanks. Dave
CROONAERT Posted 10 June , 2008 Author Posted 10 June , 2008 I have this Japanese tag (amongst others) ,but is it the same pattern (adopted 1905/6) that they would have been wearing in 1914?

Thanks. Dave. Hi Dave, In September I found an Ottoman soldier's ID tag behind the Courtney and Steeles Post cemetery on the Second Ridge at Gallipoli. The only other example like it was a photo taken of one on the AWM site that was found by Charles Bean. In all my years at Gallipoli it's the only example that I've found or even seen. This one is from a soldier of the 72 Battalion which hailed from Syria and was probably lost in the major counter attack of 19 May 1915
