Guest jacqueline cox Posted 9 June , 2008 Posted 9 June , 2008 Can anyone tell me what stages a soldier went through before he was discharged as unfit for duty, please? My grandfather contracted rheumatic fever while in 1/16 London QWR (arrived France Nov 11 1915), was not at the front long says family tradition (6weeks). He is shown in a photograph in an entertainment "Rouen Follies 23 Jan 1916". Family tradition says he was in hospital for a very long time but he was still a soldier on his marriage certificate Aug 1917 in Frinton on Sea,. However, his medal card shows he was awarded a silver war badge, that he was a lance corporal in the Royal Defence Corps and is marked "Dis." I havn't yet looked at the silver war badge lists at Kew, since I am in the Herault. Thank you in advance- Jacqueline
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 June , 2008 Posted 9 June , 2008 I expect he would have been "Discharged" on completion of all treatment, when no further medical attention was possible,The RDC was a Home based force{similar to Home Guard} & fitness levels would have been lower than for Overseas Line Service. The SWB Roll page will hopefully give the unit discharged from & date.
