baorbrat Posted 6 June , 2008 Posted 6 June , 2008 I now know that prior to enlisting in the R.F.A. My Grandad lived in Carluke, in Lanarkshire. He Enlisted on or after 1 January 1917 His Service number is 217711 on his Medal Card it states RFA/297 B 39530 So a question. What Does /297 B (Page)39530 mean? Can anyone tell me What Unit Grandad Served in? O.k.two Questions What Does it mean? The Unit? And does anyone know if the absent voter roll for Carluke, Lanarkshire still exists? - I get strange mutterings from people I phone there. Damn, thats Three questions.
Adam Llewellyn Posted 7 June , 2008 Posted 7 June , 2008 Peter, The reference on the MIC will be for the medal rolls which should be held at Kew, I'm no expert, but they may have more information for which unit he was with. Llew.
Neil Mackenzie Posted 7 June , 2008 Posted 7 June , 2008 Peter. A folder at the NA will tell you which medal roll relates to RFA/297 B. You then have to order it and your Grandad will be on page 39530. I have only looked at a few Medal Rolls so am no expert but I would be surprised if there was more info for an RFA man. You don't provide his name but your best bet for finding which RFA unit he actually served with would be be if his Service Record still survived. Assuming he is an Anderson like you then you will be able to search for this online at Ancestry. Good luck. Neil
