Royal Marine medal index cards

Sorry to be a pain and waste space on this valuable forum but can anyone tell me if the Royal Marine Medal index cards are on line please.

Naval personnel do not have medal index cards. They have medal rolls, at Kew.

The medal rolls are in alphabetical order in ADM 171 and are on microfilm. If you know details of his service it is quite easy to work out which medals he had!

Yellow's case in untypical for the RM in general. The case of Henderson is, however, probably typical of the men of the Royal Naval Division Engineers like him (about 2,250 marines). The RNDE were transferred en bloc to the Royal Engineers in early 1917. However, all their 1914-15 Stars were won as marines (like Henderson's).

It remains the case that the vast majority of RM's do NOT have MICs.

These MICs are War Office records for the issue of army awards, this included decorations such as the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal to Royal Marines. They also have some cards for men who transferred between services. Apart from this tiny minority of RM it is best to start with the medal rolls.

Not all Royal Marines papers are at the FAAM. Also their research facilities are limited and I understand they are now resreicting their email and postal enquiries.
