Ron Clifton Posted 4 June , 2008 Posted 4 June , 2008 Hello Chris Both of these batteries were equipped with 6-inch howitzers. These would almost certainly have been of the improved 26-hundredweight (c.1,300kg) version, although there may have been a few of the earlier 30-hundredweight model may still have been in service. Ron PS Paul, you just beat me to it!
WW1RGAfinder Posted 4 June , 2008 Posted 4 June , 2008 Are there any good pictures of these 6-inch howitzers & also some of 8-inch howitzers ?.
Chris Henschke Posted 4 June , 2008 Author Posted 4 June , 2008 Thanks for the quick replies from everyone. I was unsure because there seems to be so many variants of 6-inch. Could anyone tell me the planning data (beaten zone) for a battery equipped with 26 cwt. 6-inch firing at 6,000 yards? Chris Henschke
Chris Henschke Posted 4 June , 2008 Author Posted 4 June , 2008 It helps a lot. Thanks. Chris Henschke

tjec Posted 4 June , 2008 Posted 4 June , 2008 Had to jump in, all this is "grist for my mill" and most welcome information. Thanks to all contributors. Regards, Norman
Pete1052 Posted 5 June , 2008 Posted 5 June , 2008 Essdee's chart in post number 6 is interesting because it is annotated "Field Survey Company Royal Engineers 6219." The wear of the tubes is also noted on the chart. The annotation indicates to me that survey teams were determining the maximum ranges of the various charges. Does anyone know if that chart was prepared as part of the calibration of the guns/howitzers?
