Doug Lewis Posted 15 February , 2004 Share Posted 15 February , 2004 While beginning to research another War memorial in Wolverhampton I came across this man's story and would like to share it with the forum. William Howard Scott Pte 50289 "C" Coy 9th Btn Essex Rgt (Formerly 61412 Lincolnshire Rgt) Born Dakley Dublin. Resident of Wolverhampton from where he enlisted. Son of the late Dr. and of Mrs. Irwin Scott, of 18, Denmark Villas, Hove, Sussex. Came over from California, 1915. Accepted O.T.C., failed from heart trouble. Worked at munitions till March 1918, joined as private, although exempted. Killed in Action 13/10/18. I think if i had been in his position I would of thought well I tried to join,I'm unfit, I will carry on working in the munitions factory although dangerous and hard work noone is trying to kill me. William didn't,he joined and was killed less than a month from the Armistice. Doug
