How accurate is De Ruvigny?

I was searching De Ruvigny this afternoon and came across an entry for a 2nd Lt Geoffrey Owen Thomas, 9th Royal Fusiliers who it claims was a pupil at my old school. His name however is not on the school war memorial.

Which one should I believe?

De R was IIRC compiled by subscribers thus information is only as good as the input,it was not an official record & I doubt if the entries were checked to any degree,If you cannot find any reference to him @ the School or from other sources I suspect there is an error on the part of the DeR submission in the first place

while researching various servicemen over the years i have often found servicemen not being mentioned on various roll of honours .do you have anyway of checking school year books for obituarys. try checking local newspapers or even the times they might shed more light on where he was educated.

Absence from the school war memorial is no indication that he did not go to the school, or that he was not lost in the war. Over the years I have had several names added to the war memorial at Thetford Grammar School. I am sure that many other Pals have done the same at schools and in towns and villages. Entrance registers and the CWGC website are key elements here.

Hope this helps.

With best wishes,

David
