Hi, can any pal please give some information regarding the 6th Bn Seaforth Highlanders. I have traced my ggranda to this battalion. I looked at the mother site and couldn't find anything. So any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you saying that because there is no 6th Battalion in the Seaforths page on LLT ?

It may be that he was in either 1/6th or 2/6th. If you post his name and any other details it might be possible to add to your knowledge.

1/6th Bn Seaforth Highlanders were at Bedford with the Highland Division (if you look at the Bedford thread under Home and POWs below you may see some pictures of interest)

They left for France on the 3rd of May 1915 and were part of the 152nd Brigade, 51st (Highland) Division.

the link on the Long Long Trail site is HERE

and to the 51st Division here

There is an easily available reprint of the History of the 51st Division (Major E.W. Brewsher) which will give you the big picture.

As Sotonmate noted above, if you post a few more details you may be suprised at the level of expertise that emerges.

His name was George Murray Devan service no s/22582. On checking the LLT site it must be 1/6th because he has the War Medal and Victory Medal. So he must have been overseas after 1915. Thanks for your help.

In case of interest to anyone (or in case someone has done it already and I can rest on their work), I am transcribing the war diaries of the 6th Seaforth Highlanders (1/6 Battalion). My own interest dates from December 1915 so I have been lazy and started there. Let me know if it is of interest to anyone else, and I can either post somewhere on this forum or send an email. So far I have done 5 months worth, so a bit more to do.
