Visiting the Australian War Memorial Museum

I'm looking at taking a weekend sojourn across the ditch to Canberra with a friend to visit the AWMM this year. Any advice on accomadation, what time to go, etc etc? Were looking at seting aside an entire day for the visit, will this be enough?

Regards

Dave.

Dave,

Plenty of accommodation generally. Check Wotif on the net closer to the date for good rates, the link is here http://www.wotif.com/search/Advanced?count...ryMatch=&st

The Memorial hours are 10am - 5pm. A full day should be enough to browse through most of it - the new Post 45 Galleries are excellent, using leading edge technology to give them "life".

Hi Dave,

I thoroughly recommend a good day at the AWM and I agree with Chris that the new Post-45 is well worth a look.

If you have kids there is also a tremendous interactive area. The research section is also very worthwhile but that might have to wait as you'll need the day just to give the Museum/Memorial the 'once over'. :)

Have a great trip.

Hi Dave,

To throw in my two cents, a day will only be adequate if you just want a general overview of all the galleries. If you have a strong interest in particular theatres or is someone who likes to read alot of plaques (like me), you'll want to consider a second day. If you also want to go to the research centre, you could even tack on a third...

And a fourth....and a fifth..... :D

G'day Cpt Dave,

Like all the others I agree you could spend days at the AWM.

I suggest you give Olims Hotel a look as far as accomodation is concerned, it is quite close to the Memorial and if you ask for accomodation in the Heritage Rooms it is cheaper. (if you are a serviceman it is cheaper still)
