Hello

Have tried The Long Long Trail but don't seem to be able to find answer to:

Where would I find information regarding Grand Father who was Private Leonard Luke, 2nd Battalian, Royal Fusiliers, died in the Bombay Hospital 11 October 1922, buried in Suri (my Grandmother's spelling) Cemetery?

I might not be reading their answers correctly, so any assistance in finding the gentleman in attachment post-34998-1212309751.jpg would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi Jenny,

Welcome to the forum. I believe that this could be Leonards Medal Index Card. It show that he was with the London Regiment and then the Royal Fusiliers. I'm not to sure about the remarks column, but I'm sure that someone will be able to help out.

Regards. Llew.

There does not seem to be any pension records on Ancestry for him.

Ha ha Llew beat me to it,but I went for the same one.

You might be able to get his records from Army Records as he served after 1920.

I am not sure whether they destroyed the records of men who died.

Many thanks for that Llew

Because his name never came up on anything that I searched I was beginning to think my Grandmother had made him up, that she hadn't come back from India with a one year old and pregnant with my mother.

I had assumed she was a war pensioner there is an address in her address book for a War Pensioners Welfare Officer in Ealing, maybe Ancestry hasn't got to her yet.

Kind regards

Jenny

Heres Sewri Cemetery but not listed as being buried there.

Mick

The cemetery info tells us why.

Hello Mick

I had seen that one, however although I can't find it now, I thought I had read that the contents of the graves that had been paid for were not moved. Although I can't guarantee that his grave was paid for, my Great Grand Mother did have some money so it is possible. I will try and follow this up.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

Jenny

Yes it looks as though they were returned it says 992 KR 1923

I guess K R is Kings Regulations and 1923 the date they were returned?

Jane
