Matthew B. Posted 30 May , 2008 Share Posted 30 May , 2008 Hi Folks, Out of my confort zones (and books) I have been asked by a friend to look into the following: 32959 Pte John Henry Miles, 10th Yorkshire & Lancashire Regiment Killed in Action Sunday 12th August 1917 B & E Ecclesall, Sheffield I have one conflicting bit of info that he might have been serving with the MGC when he died. I belive the 10th Y&L were part of 63 Brigade, 37th Division Can anyone add flesh to the bones, please? Cheers, Matthew
eviltaxman Posted 30 May , 2008 Share Posted 30 May , 2008 Matthew, His MIC only shows Y&L Regiment and Soldiers Died doesn't mention the MGC either. Currently there's no trace of his service record on Ancestry. Les
Brigantian Posted 1 June , 2008 Share Posted 1 June , 2008 Matthew There is a Pte 89644 Henry Miles, 49 Coy, MGC, on the Ecclesall Church War Memorial. He was KIA on 16-8-17, four days after your man (who isn’t on the memorial) – is it possible that the conflicting information arises from two men with similar names living in the same area? Matthew B. Posted 18 June , 2008 Author Share Posted 18 June , 2008 eviltaxman, Brigantian & dean1, Many thanks for this - I will pass on the info. Brigantian - you are probably right about the MGC man getting confused with this man. Do you think it likely the local papers would have anything and if which one? I now understand he was only 19 when he died - a conscript I would have thought I now find the day he died, a Sunday, nothing of significance was supposed to be happening. Did the the 10th Y&L leave a regimental history? Cheers, Matthew
