Ypres vist - nice result

Recommended Posts

I've just been to Ypres and the Salient for the 1st time, particularly looking for places associated with my grandfather who was killed with 1 Dorsets (about whom members here, including of course the redoubtable Steve Potter!) have been so helpful. We found, in the minute 'Woods' cemetary which is close the location the Dorsets held at the time, a grave for a soldier of the regiment killed on the day my grandfather was fatally wounded. Which I rather regard as 'a result' for me - though not of course for him who I suspect would have counted 'a result' as being drinking in the pubs of Dorchester after the war.

Nice to find such a link to the events of the past, but then again isn't that why we do it?
