elaine s. Posted 28 May , 2008 Posted 28 May , 2008 Hi there, At the tail end of 2007, a number of you were very helpful in suggesting how I might fill in details of my great uncle, Frank Pollard, died 23 August 1918 during the assault on Achiet le Grand. It's taken me a while but thought those who helped might like to know I have found he enlisted on 21 December 1914 with 1st Northamptons. His rise therein was meteoric and he soon became Lance Serjeant ( know all about this from a 2006 thread). He was then transferred to 13th Bn., The Rifle Brigade and became a full Serjeant. In civvy strret he had been a teacher. Anyone recommend good reading on 1st Northamptons? Thanks again for all previous suggestions and help. elaine s
Stebie9173 Posted 28 May , 2008 Posted 28 May , 2008 The Northamptonshire Regiment 1914-1918. Does what it says on the tin. Reprinted by Naval and Military Press. Actually covers the 1st and 2nd battalion in good detail with considerable less on the Service battalions, with a decent chapter on the 4th (T.F.) battalion. Steve.

Stebie9173 Posted 28 May , 2008 Posted 28 May , 2008 Frank appears on the Rothwell Absent Voters List for the 1918 General Election: Most of the lists were compiled from fairly early in 1918 onwards. Steve.

Stebie9173 Posted 28 May , 2008 Posted 28 May , 2008 It's from the Northamptonshire Absent Voters List (copies held at the Northampton Records Office). Rothwell is in the Kettering Division (others being Northampton/Daventry/Wellingborough & Peterborough) Steve.
