Marnik Posted 18 May , 2008 Share Posted 18 May , 2008 Walked arround on the cemetery yesterday and saw these graves. I was wondering what happened here?
Aurel Sercu Posted 18 May , 2008 Share Posted 18 May , 2008 Marnik, I'm not sure, for looking at your photo I don't know where the exact location is. Is it the farthest (lowest) side of the cemetery ? Anyway, it reminded me of the reburials, in June 2003, of 3 Canadian soldiers our team (the Diggers) had found I think in February 2002. Have a look at : http://www.mausershooters.org/~diggers/N/E...ada09062003.htm more specifically photos 10-17 and 21, and then let me know if this is the same place. I haven't been there for a while, but I remember that last time there were no headstones yet, just 3 heaps of earth where the reburials had taken place. Maybe some time ago the headstones were at last put into position and the earth flattened ? Aurel
Marnik Posted 18 May , 2008 Author Share Posted 18 May , 2008 Yes Aurel, the lower part of the cemetery. The three headstones are unknown Canadien soldiers. You could be correct (as usual ) Marnik
JimSmithson Posted 18 May , 2008 Share Posted 18 May , 2008 If these burials were in 2003 why does the site look like this now, 5 years on? Recent burials on the Somme had the turf relaid etc shortly after the ceremony thus creating a fitting place almost straight away. Jim
Greyhound Posted 18 May , 2008 Share Posted 18 May , 2008 Could there have been a problem with subsidence? The headstones look unaffected, but they could have been repositioned.
