Neil Mackenzie Posted 15 May , 2008 Share Posted 15 May , 2008 Further to my other post on HB Banks I am researching the Whitgift Middle (now Trinity School, Croydon) school's war memorial. From a list of Old Boys serving in the War that was published in the Old Boys magazine I have a couple of men who I believe died in the war and are commemorated on CWGC but who are not on the School Memorial. I would like to get them added along with 2 further men who I have been able to prove attended the School and died in the War. One of these is listed in the magazine as HV Carley although his unit is not given. There is a Lieutenant Harry Victor Carley on CWGC of 7th Bn, Norfolk Regiment who died 14/10/1915 and is buried in Choques Military Cemetery. According to CWGC his brother lived in Croydon The book 'Croydon and the Great War' lists this man so I know he was a Croydon lad but his former school is not listed. I am reasonably confident that this is one and the same man but I have not been able to prove it conclusively and wondered if anyone could help. I have looked at his file at Kew (WO 339/34056) but his application to the OCU is not given - this usually lists the man's former school. Does anyone have access to Ruvigney's to see if the information in there or can suggest another way of confirming the link - I have tried local newspaper archives for the period shortly after his death. Many thanks. Neil
