Charles O'Reilly born 1884. Lived in Gateshead and Burnopfield. He was my grandfather's brother and family information has always said he was awarded the Military Medal, the Croix de Guerre, the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Russian Medal. Photographs are taken in uniform although not sufficiently clearly to distinguish detail beyond his sergeant's stripes. A photograph on a camel in front of the sphinx in Egypt show his ribbons on his jacket. He married in summer 1917 in Leadgate County Durham and the marriage certificate states he is a sergeant in the Ist NF. After the war he probably went to the US although his wife is shown on passenger lists as being single and using her maiden name.

I have Ancestry membership and can't find information there, nor National Archives or the London Gazette, although I am not sure that I am searching properly in the LG.

Can anybody help me? I am stumped !

Thank you, Pat
