Lin Penny Posted 13 May , 2008 Share Posted 13 May , 2008 I've just been shown two "medals" which belonged to my Great Uncle, Sgt Percy Arthur Gordon CHAMPION who was with the 1st East Lancashire Regiment from 1902 to 1911 or 1912 and then re-joined around 1914 into the Army Service Corps. One medal states "Guvezne League, Macedonia 1917 -18. Winners. Sgt P Champion, 738 Coy MT ASC. The other disc states simply "CMFL 1912-1913, P Champion" and we think this may have had something to do with Fulham Football Club for whom he played twice between 1912 and 1914 being recruited from the 1st East Lancs FC. (info from Fulham FC). Was this usual? I can find no information about Regimental Football Clubs nor about the 1st East Lancs whereabouts during the period 1902 to 1911 and how can I find information about ASC in Macedonia in 1917? Can anyone help me with this? I'll add a photo when I can get access to the medals again but they are pretty plain, laurel leaves and footballers, if I recall correctly and not as big as a new 50p coin. Thanks, Lin
