Remembered Today:

Great War Spoon.

I did my usual trawl through the various piles of old cutlery at the car boot sale this morning looking for Great War items and I came up trumps with a spoon. It has ACC stamped on the handle and I didn't think it was military at first. Only when I turned it over and saw what the initials ACC stand for: Army Canteens Committee, did I realise what a bargain it was at 50p. The Army Canteens Committee was formed in 1916 or 1917, (depending on which internet source you believe), and became the Army and Navy Canteen board in 1921.

And it clearly says on the handle that it's their property! Shame on you - knowingly purchasing stolen goods. Go and give it back at once. ;)

I believe that they had a soldiers' canteen at Victoria Station in London. I will see if it is still open and will drop the spoon off on my way in to work tomorrow.
