Robert Dunlop Posted 11 February , 2004 Share Posted 11 February , 2004 The article seems to be referring to the 1916 pattern Stahlhelm, which was a tad heavier than the 1917 pattern. There was a third variant that I know of - the 1918 pattern, which specifically did not cover the ears in order to reduce blast damage to the ear drums.
