Guest Gazunder Posted 11 February , 2004 Share Posted 11 February , 2004 Can anyone give me any pointers as to how I can find out the service records and in what battle my Great Uncle was killed, I have searched the web for a coinciding battle but have failed to come up with it. I think the museum for the regiment is at the Tower of London, but no website is listed. Joseph T. Lucas, born possibly 1885 to Frederick and Sarah LUCAS Rifleman London Regiment (AKA Queen Victoria's Rifles) 1st/9th Battalion Service number: 7130 KIA 24 January 1917 (I cannot tie in a battle for this date) Wife's initial A Buried at Laventie Military Cemetary. LA Gorgue Any history of this battalion and any information of what occured on 24 January 1917 would be appreciated. I intend coming to UK in July and go across to France and photograph his grave, yo my knowledge none of my family members have ever visited it. I am very new to this and researching any family topic is not as easy to the uninitiated as I first thought. My e-mail address is: fredfisher1@bigpond.com TIA Regards John Fisher (Australia)
jim_davies Posted 11 February , 2004 Share Posted 11 February , 2004 Hi John, Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure whether you already have this but Soldiers Died shows: Rifleman Joseph Thomas Lucas, Killed in Action Enlisted Southwark Residing Lambeth Formerly 5350, 11th London Regt. Soldiers Died also shows 12 men of the battalion dying on the same day as Joseph. 11 were KIA, with one DOW. A large number were also "formerly" 11th Londons men. Good luck, Jim
