carninyj Posted 12 April , 2008 Share Posted 12 April , 2008 GWF Pals A friend asked me to try and find the following soldier. So far I've had no sucess and I hoping the GWF will come up trumps. I am looking for 2nd Lieut D. Paul from Maghera area. His family say he served with 16th Royal Irish Rifles and went missing from 21/03/1918. The Presbyterian Roll of Honour lists him as attending Maghera Presbyterian church states he was A.S.C. Two or three other family members appear to have served. Any lead would be appreciated. Procat Posted 12 April , 2008 Share Posted 12 April , 2008 Hi Carninyj, No record of him in Officers Died Great War. This appears to be his Death Certificate details: Paul David, T.2 Lt., R.Ir.Rif., Year 1918, Volume O.13, Page 235 Doug

carninyj Posted 14 April , 2008 Author Share Posted 14 April , 2008 David Paul, RIR, is listed as a Temporary 2Lt. Is there any chance that he appears with the OR in SDGW? I'd appreciate someone checking for me. Can anyone find him on the Medal Index at the National Archives (online)? Thanks in advance. sotonmate Posted 14 April , 2008 Share Posted 14 April , 2008 Carninyj You might learn a bit more from an Officer's File ( the only one with the name D PAUL) which is at Kew under WO339/69910. Sotonmate

John_Hartley Posted 14 April , 2008 Share Posted 14 April , 2008 It is possible that he is a "non-commemorated" by CWGC. You will probably need to acquire the death certificate as evidence, to submit to CWGC, as to date of death. The Forum has arrangements with the Commission to make these submissions on your behalf if you wish. So that we have the subjects in one place, I hope you won't mind if I ask a moderator to move this thread to the "non- commem" section. carninyj Posted 16 April , 2008 Author Share Posted 16 April , 2008 John Hartley et al Thanks for the interventions. As I said, it was a friend who first asked about this soldier and he was making enquiries on behalf of the family. I passed on relevant material from the GWF to him and he is now trying to contact the family to see what additional help they might give and indeed to see if they want to proceed. I'll keep all of you informed. Regards Carninyj
