Simon R Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Anglo-Saxon/Scandanavian cross shafts are often chosen as WWI memorials, we could all probably name at least one. Some are in fact reproductions of locally known originals (e.g. the c. C9th Angel Cross from Otley Parish Church reprod. as war memorial). Has anything substantial been written about them? Was their reproduction and erection supervised by anyone inparticular - W.G. Collingwood was the doyen of cross fragments and may have had a hand, albeit from a distance, in at least commenting on the reproduction at Otley, if not actually getting involved directly.
