Length: approx. 390 mm There's also an inscription: 7899 S/242G In which army was this dagger/bayonet used? Any help is much appreciated. Regards, Marnik ... museumtom Posted 19 March , 2008 Share Posted 19 March , 2008 This is a WW2 German mauser bayonet. S242 is a Manfactureres code and as far as I know G is a year of manufacture letter. It will fit the gew 98 and K98 as well as other Mausers. Regards. Tom
Marnik Posted 19 March , 2008 Author Share Posted 19 March , 2008 Thank you Tom for this quick reply! Do you also knows for what year the letter "G" stands? Regards, Marnik

Andrew Upton Posted 19 March , 2008 Share Posted 19 March , 2008 There should be a two digit date (ie 37 for 1937) at the base of the spine of the blade.
Willywombat Posted 19 March , 2008 Share Posted 19 March , 2008 See this link: http://www.old-smithy.info/bayonets/84-98%...%20pictures.htm It appears from other sources that the manufacturer is Berg & Co. I'm no expert, but I believe 7899 is simply a serial number Hope this helps, Bob.
