Dar es Salaam British and Indian Memorial, Tanzania The 8th South African Infantry formed part of Brig General Beeves reserve force. They took part in the action on the Lateama Ridge early in Smut's offensive against German East Africa and were later sent as part of a reinforcing brigade to General DeVenters 2nd Division at Kondoa Irangi.
