Hello Each

I was hoping to visit the last of the cemeteries which contain my 9th Bn men this year. Unfortuenetely I have gone lame and will only be able to visit four on the Somme close to Thiepval were my Granddaughter can help me.

I would be eternally grateful if anyone is visiting any of the cemeteries listed and could take photos for me.

Contay British Cemetery - 6 men

Warloy-Baillon - 5 men

Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery - 1 man

Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension 1 - 1 man

Avesnes-Le-Comte Communal Cemetery - 1 man

Arras Flying Services memorial - 1 man (attached to RFC)

Villers-Faucon Communal Cemetery - 1 man

Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension - 1 man

Etaples Military Cemetery - 1 man

Sorry to hear that Steve - good job you are not a horse!

Would you mind posting the names of your men - as people might have taken a picture 'accidentally' or while doing other research.

Thanks.

Steve.

I am going to Arras in May so if no one has taken the picture for Harold Young before then I am sure I can do that one. His name rings a bell with me but I cannot remember in what context - you don't know whom he was flying with when he was killed do you? I notice from his CWGC entry that his mother was from Chipstead which is very close to me so he may be on a local memorial.

Tom, the Padre and I are over next month. If we go near any I'm sure we'll manage a few shots. I'll print the list and take it.

Do you want to discuss our rates beforehand, or are you willing to take them on trust?

Steve,

If you don't get a better offer, I can probably take the Southern Calais one - might even be there sometime this Easter (or at Whit). I will keep an eye on the thread!

Thanks all.

Neil - I have only seen the CWGC info so far. I do not think he was with the battalion for long. He is not on the list of officers who were with the battalion or joined whilst in France.

Mr B -

Buy a drink and three straws and send me the bill :D.

Phil -

I would be very grateful if you could.

Once I have had my shoulder op and the scatica has eased, I will be up and running (well walking) again.

Apparently I have the spine of an 80 year old (and he ain't happy  ). (no Mr B I am no where near that age)

Luckily Mr Brown has made sure that ex-soldiers get priority treatment (I don't think). I am though learning Polish so I can jump the queue.

Hello

Yes Joseph was killed on Gallipoli on 10/8/1915. I can let you have a photo of his name on the Helles Memorial if you wish.

I would be pleased to have a photo of the men.

Although the book was published in November last year, I will at some time update it with new photos etc.

I will PM you my email address.

Thanks

Steve

Can you confirm which pictures are still outstanding from your list. We are over there for a few days this weekend, in between visiting kitchen shops and stripping wallpaper, I'll try and get some for you.

We are leaving in the very early hours of Friday morning, about 2.00am, so let me know by Thursday evening if you can.

Kind regards

John

Hi Steve

Are you close to moving in yet?

Will know a bit more when we get there this weekend. The builder has been in the house for three weeks and probably has another five or six to go. We should move once the house is finished but the conversion on the barn for the B&B will take a further 3 months ............. we hope!

I am most likely taking a trip out to Puchevillers, also who do you want in Knightsbridge?, I took a lot of your regiment when I was there last time, might just have it.

It's a shame you are not arriving until Tuesday as I need to be back at work Tuesday am.

Kind regards

John

I once phoned the radio when the author was on (forgot his name). I wanted to ask him why he had used Morse. I gave the researcher my name and he would not believe me! and put the phone down.

My sincere thanks to all the pals who have helped me reduce the list.

My Granddaughter did sterling work last week despite the very cold wind. Poor girl had frostbite by the end of it.

I was determined to walk to the Thiepval Memorial (bad idea). Aimee ended up helping me back.

She also found a Morse at Hamel cemetery which made her day. Also the first time she had seen shells lying next to the cemetery.

First Physio has made me worse! but no pain no gain
