Coldstreamer Posted 15 March , 2008 Share Posted 15 March , 2008 when was he discharged ? If he died after his discharge then that may explain why not on cwgc (not on soldiers died either)
Guest KevinEndon Posted 15 March , 2008 Share Posted 15 March , 2008 he died in 17 so he is within the CWGC dates.
Terry Denham Posted 15 March , 2008 Share Posted 15 March , 2008 You need the required evidence. What do you have?
John_Hartley Posted 15 March , 2008 Share Posted 15 March , 2008 Nothing in GRO Overseas, Battalion Roll of Honour, FreeBMD, CheshireBMD or LancashireBMD. However, MIC notes DoW as 15/4/17 and has a SWB roll reference. J

John_Hartley Posted 15 March , 2008 Share Posted 15 March , 2008 Name, age and Manchester area connection suggests he might be the William Hartford Dover, birth registered in Bolton in 1880. Although he could be the William Henry Dover registered in Berkhampstead same year. The only thing to do, if manchester regiment wants to take it further, is for him to get the certificate for the Somerset death and confirm that there's a DoW here. Terry would then be able to make the submission to CWGC. J
Coldstreamer Posted 16 March , 2008 Share Posted 16 March , 2008 SWB roll may confirm the chaps age at discharge to confirm
John_Hartley Posted 26 April , 2011 Share Posted 26 April , 2011 I got the death certificate for W H Dover and it confirms he's the Royal Fusilier, commemorated by the Commission, who died on 22 May 1917. Unless further information about the Manchester man comes to light, I don't see this going anywhere.
PaulC78 Posted 15 February , 2020 Share Posted 15 February , 2020 Looks like this was a simple error on the MIC: the SWB roll and pension ledger show that he was discharged on 15 April 1917, not died on that date. From his service papers it appears that he signed for his medals in 1922, so not a non-com.
