Geoff Parker Posted 10 February , 2004 Share Posted 10 February , 2004 Bob Brief overview of the actions of 54th Div on Sept 19/18 Advance into Samaria On the 18th Sept, 54th Div covered a front from Rafat to Mejdl Yaba. The 54th Div was ordered to advance on Keft Kasim and then proceed in a north- easterly direction on the 19th September. 0420 The Division advance on a front of 3,000 yards and by 0700 had captured Crown Hill (1/8th Hampshires), Keir Kasim and Jevis Tepe (1/4th Essex and 1/5th Essex), Strong resistance being experienced by 161st Bde at Kasim Wood. 1105 Oghlu Tepe was stormed by the 1/10th Northamptons. During this action 1/10th Londons rushed and captured two 5.9 inch howitzers on high ground overlooking Wadi Kanah. 1115 Sivri Tepe was captured by 1/5th Essex after stubborn resistance. 1515 Kh. Sirisia was taken by 1/4th Norfolks, supported by 1/5th Norfolks The Division had advanced over broken and difficult ground, but all objectives were taken by nightfall, with 600 prisoners and 11 guns captured. Not much detail I'm afraid Geoff
