I was doing some sorting out at the weekend, looking for a file I put up in the loft months ago and came across another file I thought memebrs of the forum might be interested in.

One of my interests is the 6th battalion Welsh Regt ( TF) when i first started researching the battalion I spent some time going through the local Swansea paper ( South Waes Daily Post, now caled the Evening Post). At the time I was working for the Western Mail Newspaper the broad sheet paper of Wales. Whilst looking at the microfils of the paper, one article refered to some more pictures in the Western Mail.

Whilst looking through the Western Mail I found a full page article about the men working for the Western Mail who had joined the colours, the article is a full page broad sheet page with pictures of each man and what unit he was serving with and his job title with the paper. Date is 16th Aug 1915.

Simon

Thanks very much for this very interesting list. Quite a lot served in the Cardiff Pals (11th Welsh) I notice, as well as a few in the City Bn (16th Welsh).

I've made a quick search through my records and can add the following Cardiff men to your list of those who died:

Capt. Dan Davies, 10th Welsh, dow 10.9.17 (WM staff)

Able Seaman David Keene, Hood Bn. RND, kia 26.10.17 (machine-room)

L/Cpl. William Sulley, 16th Welsh, kia 27.8.17 (Evening Express -WM evening paper in 1915)

Pte. Fred James White, 16th Welsh, kia 11.11.17 (machine-room apprentice).

Those in bold are the names are in gold lettring on the memorial, I take it that these must be those who died, but again I have never got round to looking them up.

If anybody is after a picture of the memorial please PM me with your e-mail address and will send a copy on.

Hope this helps - Simon
