Doug Lewis Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Could anyone help me put into a geography context the following information as the records of Cpl 149166 Archibald Box I'm researching didn't survive and I'm trying to put together information on his service. War Diary 150th Hvy Bty RGA 13.4.18 Arrived at MORBECQUE ( J1670.48 Sheet 36a) 4pm 32 pounds were fired on large concentration of enemy forces 5.55pm A barrage was fired on road West of Merville 14.4.18 S.O.S was answered at 1-5 pm 3 OR's killed & 4 wounded by hostile shell 14.4.18-18.4.18 Harrassing fire was carried out day and night on roads and tracks around Merville & Nerf Berquin about 400 rounds being fired each day. A great number of area calls were also answered. Archibald was one of the wounded OR's and died the same day. He is buried in Aire Community Cemetery which I know at this time was the 54th Casualty Clearing station. Could anyone help me with where Morbecque Merville and Nerf Berquin were in relation to the Western Front and how far mile/Km 54th CCS would be from these places. Robert Dunlop Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Here is the overall context. The map shows the dispositions of British and German forces on the opening day of Operation Georgette. Merville is just below centre:
