Somme1916 Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Very envious but I bet it was a long walk to the top.
Dragon Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Paul, would you be able to post a link, please? Thanks Gwyn
paul guthrie Posted 6 February , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 February , 2004 http://www.wfa-usa.org/new/index.cfm then go to resources, Somme & you will see Bob Denison's pictures, says Paul , AKA Mr. Technology, quite pleased with hisself for posting link. Hell. I'm Mr, Home Repair too, last week sucessfully replaced 2 toilet bowl flaps! Learned to make one button calls on cell phone! One day will even learn to post pictures but have no scanner. I bet you want to know how Bob got there, right? Your wish is my commando! he was talking to a friend of a friend who was talking to a worker who let them up. As far as it being a climb, I bet it falls short of the US monument on Montfaucon in the Argonne which has 226 or so steps or the Ossuarie at Fleury. US Branch WFA has a 12 day Somme trip/seminar for April 2005. all the usual things + US battlefields nearby and a day os 1st Marne. Non US, non WFA are welcome, check the site above for details as early as March of this year. I hope Bob will be there to do his power point on this. David Hedges of WFA Sussex has some high powered speakers lined up who are not on the usual WFA circuit. It will be a lot less expensive for many of you than for us, $ has gone to hell under guess who?

The only time I was there was in Nov 01, it was closed and we weren't able to go up. Jon
paul guthrie Posted 6 February , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 February , 2004 Well Jon, my luck has been little better, have climbed it twice but visibility poor both times. I think it's been renovated, maybe that was the problem.
Peter Beckett Posted 6 February , 2004 Share Posted 6 February , 2004 Paul, how do I contact Bob to see if it is possible to get a pristine copy of Slide #6 (High Wood) for my research on High Wood? (See my signature) Peter
Charles Fair Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Paul, thanks for the link. Have been wanting to get to the top for years. Particularly interesting to have that perspective on Thiepval Wood & Schwaben Redoubt. Charles
Andrew P Posted 7 February , 2004 Share Posted 7 February , 2004 Hi Paul I also never got to go to the top on my one visit there, so thanks for the link. I found the views towards Pozieres & Mouquet Farm very interesting. Andrew
