charger Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Should a officers medals have his regiment on. I believe in an earlier post it was said that an officer did not have a regiment number that was used as that of a private. But would he have a regiment number on his medals. Sorry if this has been covered I have tried search but cannot find it Regards Steve
CROONAERT Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Steve. For a brief answer....no (on the BWM and Vict. anyway!) Rank followed by name only (in the Army). RAF, and I think RFC officer's medals had these initials following their name (unless they were only on attachment). Australian officers had "AIF" following their rank and name. I'm unsure about other colonials and the Navy. Hope this is of some help. Dave.
David_Bluestein Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 YES to 'Regiment' on the 1914 (Mons Star) and 1914-15 Star, and all named awards. No to 'Regiment' on the BWM and Victory medals.
charger Posted 5 February , 2004 Author Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Thanks to you both, that does help I have seen a pair for sale and it only gives his rank and name. Just wondered if they where inscribed correctly. Kind regards Steve
