Simon_Fielding Posted 4 February , 2004 Share Posted 4 February , 2004 I'm looking for the best map of Ovilliers on the night of the 17/18 July 1916, just after its capture. I've looked through my books and none seems very clear. Even the battlefield Europe volume seems to have the village fairly peripheral on every map. I'm interested in illustrating the positions of 144th MGC as they came under enemy shelling during the night. Number 12 gun to be precise!! Cheers Simon
Chris Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Simon. You would maybe be best to get a look at trench map 57D S.E.4 Edition 2B, which is of the Ovillers area from summer 1916. Luckily it is one that GH Smith have reprinted. (Tel 01347 821329), I think they charge about £3 plus P&p. Regards Chris

Ralph J. Whitehead Posted 5 February , 2004 Share Posted 5 February , 2004 Simon, It is not a detailed map such as the one already posted but it does almost meet your date. This was taken from the German Somme history Somme-Nord Teil II. Hope this helps. Ralph
Simon_Fielding Posted 6 February , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 February , 2004 Fantastic Ralph - I think this shows the trenches they took over quite clearly!! Simon
