Anthony Some of the headstones are laid flat due to subsidence whne the cemetery was enlarged. Most likely due to the collapse of german dugouts at the time. bruce Posted 26 February , 2008 Share Posted 26 February , 2008 The top end of the cemetery is built over part of the Schwarben Redoubt. As a result, it was feared that in the fullness of time the ground was liable to subsidence, and so a number of the headstones were laid flat.
