Hi,

this is the first time I've ventured into this part of the Forum, so I'm a total novice re Ships and their crews. I'm researching the above who is shown on the CWGC site as dying on the 23/11/1916 and being buried in Dar es Salaam. He was a midshipman on the above.

I've seen the posts from 2005 from vernon-kell and wrighty so I know this ship wasn't sunk. So any help anyone can give re Burkill would be greatly appreciated.

John.

P.S he's not listed as a naval casualty on Ancestry but would he appear on any Naval equivelant of SDGW?

Hello John,

The Cross of Sacrifice, Vol II, gives the following:-

BURKHILL, George Arthur, Midmn RNR, HMS Himalaya, 23/11/16, Dar Es Salaam War Cemetery, Bagamoyo Road, Tanzania.

Can't find him listed under R.N.R. officers in the October 1915 Navy List.

Regards,

ARABIS.

This is much appreciated horatio.....I've battled to find this information.

Also interesting that he went up with the RNAS. Always thought that Flag Commander R O B Bridgeman was the only senior Navy man that flew with them.
