wulsten Posted 22 February , 2008 Share Posted 22 February , 2008 have edited this post to try and unravel if the soldier listed below was the same Frederick Newton Walwyn whose service records survive on ancestry but the service is listed with the 9th North Staffords service no 9062, however he was discharged aged 44 in 1914 believed reason unlikely to become an effective soldier, served 32 days born Leek. I have searched 1901 census and BMD and only found one individual named Frederick Newton Walwyn. Could this chap have re enlisted with another regiment and subsequent died as below WALWYN, FREDERICK N. Private East Yorkshire Regiment 2nd Bn. Date of Death: 19/04/1915 Service No: 3/7709 Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL

wulsten Posted 23 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 23 July , 2008 So were these two listed soldiers the same person, this is the inscription on my local cenotaph (are there any detectives out there to help)
joseph Posted 23 July , 2008 Share Posted 23 July , 2008 I would suspect yes, he joined the EYR 5/6 November 1914 as a trained man into the 3rd Battalion. Cannot find another FN Walwyn on BDM born in leek. Regards Charles
wulsten Posted 23 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 23 July , 2008 I worried about the timescales but as you point out he would have already received training, i also cannot find any other FN Walwyn, so probability you think same person ?

joseph Posted 23 July , 2008 Share Posted 23 July , 2008 His MIC has him entering France 18/02/1915, his previous 15 years service in the 1st N Staffs has fast tracked him into theatre, the dates fit pity no info on NOK? Regards Charles
wulsten Posted 24 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 24 July , 2008 Would it have been likely for this chap to have joined the East Yorks without declaring his discharge from the 9th North staffords or would he have gone through a similar process and been passed fit by the Easy yorks regt ? joseph Posted 28 July , 2008 Share Posted 28 July , 2008 He would need to go through the same process with both Regiments, it would take some time for the documents to meet as they are in different recruiting and record districts.
