petersoar Posted 20 February , 2008 Posted 20 February , 2008 My uncle Henry served in France as an artilleryman during the Great War. Kew know of his existence but his record is one of those missing. It would be good to hear from anyone with knowledge of him. He had three sons, at least one of whom was a Commando in the Second World War. Uncle Henry became a bank manager after the war and I remember with pleasure his visits to my parents' house. His wife, Mable, was called Nina becaue one of Henry's sisters was Mabel. He used to advise me, aged ten, to "Go into zip fasteners my boy. They're the future! I did not follow his advice. Peter Soar

His given address was "Hillsborough, Verulam (?) Road, St Albans" Steve.
Coldstreamer Posted 20 February , 2008 Posted 20 February , 2008 just to clarify, he was an officer and not a soldier, did you check in the correct place at the NA? ie officers papers (original) rather than soldiers papers (fiche)
sotonmate Posted 20 February , 2008 Posted 20 February , 2008 Peter Officers Papers at Kew in the WO339 series have only 3 ELLERYs with initials A and F and A again. HWO would certainly stand out but none of these initial appear ! Best wishes Sotonmate
