Harry Flashman V.C. Posted 18 February , 2008 Share Posted 18 February , 2008 This is a photo I have of My Great Great Uncle Bob Clements (through marrige) he lived at Egremont in Cumbria and was with the Border Regiment. This photo is of him in uniform been awarded the M.M at Barrow In Furness. I also have the clipping from the Whitehaven News from 1917 but can't find it at the moment. If I remember rightly he helped wounded men from no mans land back to the trenches. I'll have to hunt it out its tucked away safely in a wallet somewhere but can't remember where. I remember him vagley living in Egremont Cumbria but he died in 1979 I think and I was only eight. As for his medals I don't know where they are as he was related only through marrige they most probably went to his side of the family. According to my grandparents he was a really nice person but as with alot of old soldiers he never talked about his experiences in the war. The man in civilian clothing is also mentioned in the clipping when I find it i'll put the entry on the site Cheers H.F.V.C.

Stebie9173 Posted 18 February , 2008 Share Posted 18 February , 2008 The 2087 number certainly fits better with the 5th battalion (Territorials) than with the 8th Battalion (Kitchener Service battalion.) The return to the mines also explains why he didn't get renumebered in 1917 to a 6-digit number as most Territorials did. Steve.

Medal card of Clements, Robert W Corps Regiment No Rank Border Regiment 240483 Corporal Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference WO 372/4 Link is Here 240483 was from the 5th battalion number block and a quick search of numbers either side show a definite numbering pattern, what do you think?
