phagen Posted 17 February , 2008 Share Posted 17 February , 2008 Hello I am wondering if anyone can help/ I am trying to track down any details and records of my grandfather Frederick Escort Gilbert, and his time in the military. He was born in Bermondsey London on 19th July 1900. He enlisted when he was 18 years of age, in August 1918. (He left service in March 1920). Fortunately we have a letter that he wrote to my grandmother on 21st May 1919 which has the following details at the topPte F.E. Gilbert 83809, B Coy Lob ((I think this could be No. 6)) Plat11th Queens Regiment BEF We believe that he was in Cologne at the time of the letter, but would appreciate any details from anyone about the regiment or anything else Thank you Pamela Hagen
sotonmate Posted 17 February , 2008 Share Posted 17 February , 2008 PH The Long Long Trail at top left of this page is always good for a pointer: http://www.1914-1918.net/41div.htm 11QRWS were part of 123 Brigade as part of the Army of Occupation after 1918. They also got about a bit before that ! Best wishes Sotonmate
