Medic7922 Posted 17 February , 2008 Posted 17 February , 2008 While following up on research on my Great Uncle I discovered he also served with the 3rd Lincoln Regiment Militia for 3 years prior to enlisting into the 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards on the 16th July 1907 aged 19 in Hull East Yorkshire, If I am correct then he would have only been 15 years old when he joined the Militia would this age of enlistment have been normal for the Militia also was the Militia part of the Territorials or Regular forces?
sotonmate Posted 17 February , 2008 Posted 17 February , 2008 Medic7922 As I see it the Militia were a volunteer force, called up for periodic training, and were in effect a Training Reserve for the Army. I wouldn't think it was important if a volunteer was only 15,as he was not automatically called to arms in the event of war. He would at least be part way along the road to being an efficient soldier when his time did come to serve. That might induce a bit more input ! Best wishes Sotonmate
