Max Poilu Posted 17 February , 2008 Posted 17 February , 2008 Looks like a superb example - scarce and very desirable these days.
59165 Posted 17 February , 2008 Posted 17 February , 2008 Bloke at Oppy had 3 of them, til they were taken with his 'private collection of 5400 grenades'
lassuy Posted 18 February , 2008 Posted 18 February , 2008 I had a chance to buy one, complete, several years ago for $600 USD. Rather wish I had. Another thing to add to my long list of armaments I should have bought, but didn't---right along side the $800 Chauchat and the $1500 Lewis gun. Never seem to have the right amount of cash at the right time. When I've got the money, there's none to be found, and when I'm broke, they pop up like mushrooms. One thing's for sure, the prices will never go down, unlike the value of the US dollar. Rod
59165 Posted 18 February , 2008 Posted 18 February , 2008 With the weak dollar,a Lewis will set you back round about 5000 dollars now,Rod
old-ted Posted 18 February , 2008 Posted 18 February , 2008 Thanks for the tip on the auction. That is one catologue I must get hold of. Then it's simply a case of hoping for a win on the Lotto! I think many of us would be dangerous if we had the cash. John
Seadog Posted 18 February , 2008 Posted 18 February , 2008 Many thanks for the posts, I now realise where this came from. Norman On the Somme
lassuy Posted 19 February , 2008 Posted 19 February , 2008 With the weak dollar,a Lewis will set you back round about 5000 dollars now,Rod Don't I know it! The prices have shot up astronomically. Roughly 10 years ago, I went to an auction that featured a Maxim 08/15, and sat right beside the fellow that bought it--for $1000. About $200 more than I could spend, as usual. The Maxim was live, ie., in firing condition, as were the Lewis and Chauchat I mentioned previously. My wife knows that if we ever win the lottery, I'm going Lewis gun shopping. Let's see...my chances are one in how many million? She knows she's pretty safe on that one. Rod
asdarley Posted 20 February , 2008 Posted 20 February , 2008 As my old dad ( an avid collector of what the family regarded at the time as any old rubbish) would say to my mum on bringing home his latest acquisition and being taken severely to task..... If they stopped printing money I'd stop spending it!
