mctaz Posted 16 February , 2008 Posted 16 February , 2008 I was given a pair of service medals for this man, but when I checked his MIC, it lists first of all his A&SH service number at the top & underneath, it also indicates he was in the Royal Highlanders with service number S/41255. His medals are impressed with A&SH. Were medals impressed with the last unit served in or the one in which the soldier reached entitlement? Jim
Guest KevinEndon Posted 16 February , 2008 Posted 16 February , 2008 Medals are stamped with the unit they were with when they won then, who ever they were with at the time of going into the area where medals were issued. Hope that makes sense. Lets say he stayed in the UK for 5 years with the Black Watch and then went abroad in 1916 with the A&SH then that is why A&SH is on the medal as he wasn't entitled to the medals with the Black Watch Kevin
mctaz Posted 16 February , 2008 Author Posted 16 February , 2008 Thanks Kevin, so I can assume he was originally Black Watch then transferred into the A&SH before heading over the water! PS... I'm drinking my morning coffee out of a mug emblazoned with 1888 Jim

In a word No. He first went overseas with the A&SH and it's those details that will be recorded on the medals. He was subsequently transferred, sometime later, to the Black Watch. Steve
mctaz Posted 17 February , 2008 Author Posted 17 February , 2008 Right, Thanks Steve, so the MIC does show his units in the correct order ie. A&SH then RH Jim
