TotalNovice Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 Hi Can anyone suggest where I may be able to find any records of my Grandfather being evacuated from France and sent on a Hospital Ship. He ended up in a Hospital in (I think) Morpeth, Northumberland. He was later discharged from Gosport Miltary Hospital in Northumberland prior to being sent to Alderlay Hospital in Liverpool to get his new arm. Do such records exist? Is it possible to find out where he was sent to in France if I know his regiments details and where he was wounded and that his mother and father were sent for and visited him in France. Can't believe they went to a field hospital so had to be somewhere well away from any fighting. Many thanks pete
rodonisle Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 Pete; I was able to get such records of my grandfather including the dates and places of hospitals, type treatment and even the name of the ships he was transported on. Bad news for you is he was Australian and their digital data is extensive and easy to access. My same quest for my father's RAF and RCAF records came back with legal forms and could only be done by snail mail. Pity. I checked the form numbers and they are all Aussie specific, so can't even help you there. Good luck. - Rod

Cheers Pete Dear Pete,Rod,Brits and Moderators, Australia is often called the Lucky Country and so often when I access this tremendous Forum I hear the lamentations of Uk members not being able to freely access the records of friends, family, units, or ephemera of the Great War; whereas in Australia we have almost unlimited access to most things and usually free or for a small fee. Is it possible that the many thousands of members of the GWF could petition the powers that be to give this same priviledge to Uk members? Maybe a pipe dreambut worth consideration surely.
