jaybeebuzz Posted 15 February , 2008 Share Posted 15 February , 2008 Hi everyone I read this on The Long Long Trail site and wondered if it includes the 3rd Dragoon Guards? "If Grandad was the Guards [Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish or Welsh] you have an excellent chance of finding his service record. The regiments hold copies at their modern London base at Wellington Barracks. Some require payment for the service, others invite a donation. In all cases, you should at first write, asking for a copy of the form that the regimental archivist requires in order to carry out a search. Address your enquiry to the Regimental Archivist, X Guards (substituting the name of the regiment you are interested in), Wellington Barracks, London". Many thanks! squirrel Posted 15 February , 2008 Share Posted 15 February , 2008 The record would be at the National Archives if it still exists. Wellington Barracks ony have the records of the 5 regiments of Foot Guards; Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Irish Guards and Welsh Guards IIRC. If you have the man's name and number some kind soul here may do a look up for you or offer to see if they can find his record at the National Archives if you are not in a position to visit yourself. Pte 2831 Richard Edward Owen Scrivens 3rd Dragoon Guards KIA 31/5/15 Hi Squirrel Thanks for your help. I understand a look up at TNA but when you say "sks may do a look up for you" what do you mean by that? What would they be looking at? Is there a source of information available other than at Kew? There's nothing on ancestry.co.uk. Julie
squirrel Posted 15 February , 2008 Share Posted 15 February , 2008 Might look up the medal index card for you or ancestry.com was what I meant. Put his name, number and regiment up in a post on the Soldiers section - more chance of the experts getting involved there.
jaybeebuzz Posted 15 February , 2008 Author Share Posted 15 February , 2008 Thanks Squirrel. I have the MIC, just wanted to see if there was any other info to be found on his service records. Shame I can't get them from Wellington Barracks but it was worth a try! Julie
